The Fourth K’s Concept Exhibition
‘Connecting the Three’

Thank you for coming to my fourth biennial K’s Concept Exhibition, an original way of supporting artists. The last three exhibitions provided an opportunity for me to learn a lot about contemporary art and to enjoy meeting new friends who all love art. I am happy to hold another exhibition again.

This time, I would like to introduce three artists who produce art using Urushi. Urushi. which has been used as coating or adhesive material in Japan from the ancient time up until today, has been used to produce both daily necessities as well as beautiful artistic works. Therefore, for many Japanese people, Urushi has been a familiar material, but through this year’s exhibition, I would like to encourage observers to re-recognize the charms of Urushi.

All three artists, Mr. Toyoda, Ms. Irahara and Ms. Ako pursue new ways of expressing art using Urushi, but in different ways. One of them expresses art in relief, while others work on installation and sculpture.
I hope you will enjoy the flavor and charm of a new world created by Urushi in a totally different manner compared to the traditional craftwork.
